Inquests & Inquiries

Return to menu

Duration: 20 minutes

Platform: Microsoft Teams

Inquests and Inquiries create serious risk to Registered Providers as they have become far more high profile in recent years given the focus on building safety, customer engagement and inter-agency working. These proceedings need handling carefully, usually at a senior level with legal support given the risk of negative press coverage, subsequent litigation and regulatory engagement. Failing to be prepared or seek appropriate support is a significant risk and one that we see materialise often.

Boards need to scrutinise if their organisation is prepared to deal with requests from an Inquiry Chair or from a Coroner, the process and all that flows from this and if Boards are not assured, ask what is being done should such a situation arise.

In this session we will cover:

  • The difference between Inquests and Inquiries
  • The risks involved with Inquests and Inquiries
  • When RPs are asked to participate in Inquests and Inquiries
  • Examples of High-Profile Inquests relating to the Housing sector
  • Horizon scanning: Inquests and Inquiries update
