Dame Judith Hackitt
Introducing Dame Judith Hackitt...
Enjoying a successful career as a chemical engineer and civil servant, Judith has worked with a variety of prestigious companies, including the likes of Exxon Chemicals, the European Chemical Industries Council and the Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Enjoying a career in the engineering industry, Judith is famed for her role as the former Chair of the UK Health and Safety Executive and her current role as the Chair of EEF. As the Chair of the UK Health and Safety Executive, Judith worked to encourage the enforcement of health and safety measures within the workforce and to highlight occupational hazards evident in the UK. She is also well known for her former roles as the Director-General of the Chemical Industries Association and President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Judith laid the foundations for her career with studies at the Imperial College London. Graduating from here with qualifications in Chemical Engineering, Judith began her career at the Fawley Refinery working for Exxon Chemicals. For the following 15 years, Judith worked with Exxon Chemicals before she was appointed as the Director-General of the Chemical Industries Association. Building a reputable name in the world of chemical engineering, Judith was later recruited to work with the European Chemical Industries Group and was a Non-Executive Director for organisations such as the Energy Saving Trust and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.
Other prominent roles of Judith’s include her work as the Chair of the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety and Chairing the External Affairs Committee as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. She has also formerly dedicated her interests as a Trustee of the City & Guilds Group and the Chair of the Health and Safety Commission back in 2007. Her commitment to the industry of engineering has not gone unnoticed, having claimed recognition as one of the Top 50 Women in UK Engineering by the Telegraph and appointment as both CBE and DBE for her Services to Engineering, Health and Safety.
Having continually pioneered the development of the chemical engineering sector, Judith has always made health and safety of upmost importance and seen that it is enforced throughout the workplace.
