Rory Matheson
I came to law later than most, and after university did everything from setting up a film production company with some friends to working in telesales and quality assurance for a high street insurer. I started my career as a Paralegal for a London firm dealing with housing legal aid matters and completed my training contract there in 2020, taking up a role in the housing team.
I moved to Devonshires about two months ago, joining the Housing Management and Property Litigation team. I have already started to build a varied caseload from disrepair, anti-social behaviour and possession to leasehold and service charge matters. I think housing is a fascinating area of law, and every new case has interesting issues to consider.
Outside of work I regularly host quizzes and play guitar.

Shortly after finishing the LPC LLM, I began my housing career as a Caseworker in the Housing / Landlord and Tenant team of firm of Solicitors in East London, where I assisted a Solicitor on a range of housing matters including, homelessness, disrepair and possession.
I then completed a Training Contract at the same firm and, upon qualification moved to a boutique property firm in the city where I developed experience acting for RP’s, TMO’s, Management Companies and private landlords.
I joined Devonshires in January 2024 and I already have a varied housing management caseload including disrepair, anti-social behaviour and possession work.
I am part of the Leeds team and look forward to contributing to its growth.
