Housing Management & Property Litigation Brief
Issue 33
Welcome
Welcome to the first edition of our HMPL Brief 2025. I cannot believe how quickly the last year has passed - it is amazing how time flies! At the end of 2024 I celebrated my 25th anniversary of joining Devonshires. When I joined, we were on the cusp of a new millennium and as a junior lawyer embarking on a new role, I was excited about everything the future held. And what a 25 years it has been!
But, as all good things must come to an end, this feels like the right time to start a new chapter and I have decided to work towards a second career outside the law. This means that I will be stepping down as Head of Department and Partner from April. I won’t be going anywhere for some time yet as I will be transitioning into a new role as a part time consultant here at Devonshires, to give me the time to prepare for the next stage of my journey!
As much as I have loved my time at Devonshires, working with wonderful clients and colleagues, I am super excited about my future and the future of the firm, which I know is in excellent hands. In particular, I know that Lee Russell and Mark Foxcroft, who have worked with me to run the department in the past year and will take over as Head of Housing Management and Property Litigation, will continue to offer all of the things that you expect of us - excellence in our work, service delivery and client relationships. I cannot speak highly enough of their qualities both as lawyers and leaders and I know that they will take the department on to greater things, supported by our fantastic partnership team.
In this edition, it is very much business as usual and, as you can see from this Brief, we continue to send out timely thought pieces covering all aspects of our wide practice. There is plenty of change on the horizon too, as we await further developments in building safety, Leasehold reform and Renters’ Rights. The teams in Leeds, Birmingham and London continue to grow and have been extremely busy, not only with case work, but also with webinars and delivering our very successful Birmingham Conference on the 28 November.
With my very warmest regards,
Donna
