New ‘Affordable Housing Network’ platform
This month in our Vlog, Leo Stevens interviews Hayden Belcher, founder and CEO of the Affordable Housing Network (AHN).
AHN’s mission is to redefine the sector’s approach to Affordable Housing (AH) transactions. This new online platform seeks to connect Developers and Affordable Housing Providers (RPs) in one forum and is intended to make the underlying commercial and contractual processes faster, easier, and more transparent.
The Heathrow substation fire raises important issues for infrastructure
The recent fire which broke out at the North Hyde substation (SST) in Hayes, west London received significant publicity over the resulting blackout at Heathrow airport and ‘global’ pandemonium caused to flight schedules. However, the significant power outage also cut supplies to over 60,000 homes and businesses. A considerable number of people had to be evacuated from their premises although there were no reports of serious injuries or fatalities from the fire.
In this month’s Vlog, these issues are also presented by Nat Cartwright, who heads up Devonshires’ Telecoms Utilities and Infrastructure Team.

HM Land Registry strategic priorities and housing
Earlier this year Matthew Pennycook, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, wrote to the Board Chair of His Majesty’s Land Registry (HMLR) to set out the Government’s priorities for HMLR over the coming year. The letter reveals an interesting insight into the overall structure of central government governance and policy agendas, and the related ‘family’ of arm’s length bodies which form part of this wider framework of policy implementation.
Our detailed article (HM Land Registry strategic priorities and housing targets), discusses HMLR’s strategic objectives in the context of national policy including the ambitious 1.5 million new homes milestone being met during the current Parliament.

Official launch event for the new Temporary Accommodation Network
We reported in last month’s Newsletter about the new Temporary Accommodation Network, an initiative between Campbell Tickell and Devonshires.
The official launch event for TAN took place today at Devonshires’ offices. It was a great success, bringing together contacts from local authorities, RPs and the private sector along with representatives from Campbell Tickell and Newbridge Advisors, the GLA and a video message from Rushanara Ali MP.
TAN will now act as a springboard towards making a real difference in the provision of temporary accommodation to homeless households by bringing people together and sharing best practice. Examples include private sector leasing schemes and using modular construction to create more TA quickly for those who desperately need it.
