Noteworthy recent developments in Fire Safety

Judicial review dismissed

Campaigners for disabled leaseholders and tenants in residential buildings impacted by the building safety crisis have lost their battle with the Government over the introduction of personal emergency evacuation plans in high-rise residential buildings (PEEPs). The High Court dismissed an application by Claddag, a leaseholder disability action group, for a judicial review and found the Government’s decision not to be unlawful.

What are PEEPs?

Personal emergency evacuation plans or PEEPs are used to document how people will be evacuated in the event of an emergency, when they have difficulty responding to a fire alarm or escaping from a building unaided. They are particularly relevant for people with mobility and/or sensory impairments as well as those with other types of disability.
